daily news and photos home about fairacres closure progress the first closure at the fairacres retail park happened two or three weeks back. ahf closed in preparation for the creation of more modern sales units. vineys will close in four days time on sunday. the homebase closing down sale started over three months ago. reductions are currently 30% off everything, and up to 70% off some things. the garden centre is now nearly empty there is 60% off tinsel, baubels, inflatable father christmas’ and other things for christmas. homebase and topps tiles will both close in august. topps tiles are moving to unit 2 colwell drive. 1 comment july 25, 2019 backstreeter -- -- going up a year this is what it looked like in abingdon yesterday at the bottom of bath street. it was hot. and this is how it looked today in the abbey gardens. slightly cooler but still lots of orange. i thought the schools had ended yesterday for the summer holidays but then heard lots of children chattering as they went in line to st helen’s church for an end of term visit. good luck to all the school children who are going up from their year 6 primary school class to their year 7 secondary school class. six weeks to go. when you get to be adult there is no such thing as going up a year. 3 comments july 24, 2019 backstreeter -- -- boris is pm from aberdeen to aberystwyth; abingdon to antrim. boris johnson is to be the next prime minister. i see on his facebook page that he has been in abingdon more than once. in 2015 he said ‘brilliant to be back in abingdon campaigning for nicolas blackwood.’ nicola was the conservatives mp for abingdon from 2010 to 2017. on another facebook post i did see that conservative mp for aberdeen, ross thomson, said ‘ boris johnson as pm will do for the whole of our country what he did for london as mayor. from aberdeen to aberystwyth; abingdon to antrim.’ 7 comments july 23, 2019 backstreeter -- -- pastor ed evans at trinity church on sunday we were all shocked to hear that pastor ed evans is no longer with us, following a heart attack. there was a time of silence in the service on sunday morning. it was probably the same in all the churches. ed was well known as he chaired the church in abingdon. at trinity, revd. ian griffiths prayed for ed’s young family, and the community church – that ed has led for many years, and everybody who has been close to ed. he has been leading and helping so many community groups. his loss will be felt by many. i knew him as a governor at thameside school, where he also took assemblies, organised the wonderful prayer spaces that came to school, and helped with after school clubs. revd ian said that ed believed that there was more than this life. there is also life with god. god has prepared a place for ed, and we sang the king of love my shepherd is which took me back to the memory of diana skellington and my first ever blog post – from january 2003. in death’s dark vale i fear no ill with thee, dear lord, beside me; thy rod and staff my comfort still, thy cross before to guide me. 2 comments july 22, 2019 backstreeter -- -- swifts in abingdon’s skies thankyou to catherine for this piece, and to edward for arranging the pictures. churchill retirement have kindly agreed to include 4 swift boxes in the design of albert lodge, their new retirement flats on ock street?
